Ekow Eshun to Curate Julianknxx’s First Tokyo Show at Art Week Tokyo 2026
Art Week Tokyo is a contemporary art event that has been held for four years in Tokyo. The city-wide initiative, organised by Japan Contemporary Art Platform in collaboration with Art Basel, activates more than 50 of Tokyo’s leading art institutions and galleries through five days of coordinated programming and special platforms.
The fifth edition, happening November 4–8, 2026, recently announced that writer, curator and former director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, Ekow Eshun will curate Julianknxx’s first Tokyo show at space Un. Eshun had already curated “The Clearing” at space Un in November 2025.
Julianknxx will exhibit a body of work inspired by salt, while also organizing a series of off-site choral performances during the duration of the event.
The show is one of ten special projects in AWT Focus, the event’s flagship curatorial platform launched in 2023 as a “curated sales platform with a historical scope.” For this edition, ten curators have each been invited to organise a special project at a different Tokyo venue.
